I have used this printer for years. The internet is connected for both the printer (Hp 8710) and my laptop. I also have shut down and restarted both. In laptop settings, it now says printer "drivers unavailable".

@sls71, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer is showing "drivers unavailable" on your laptop, this typically indicates that the necessary printer drivers are either missing or outdated. Here are some steps you can follow to resolve this issue:

Download and Install Latest Drivers:

  • Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers for your printer model. You can access this at 123.hp.com/ojpro8710.
  • Download the appropriate drivers for your operating system and run the installation process.

Remove and Add the Printer Again:

  • Go to your laptop's "Settings" and navigate to "Devices" > "Printers & scanners".
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer and then click "Remove device".
  • After removing, click "Add a printer or scanner" to add the printer again.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure your Windows system is up to date, as updates can include new drivers or patches for printer compatibility.

Reboot Devices:

  • Sometimes a simple reboot can help. Make sure both your laptop and printer are restarted.

Verify Network Connection:

  • Make sure both the printer and laptop are connected to the same network and that there are no connectivity issues.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
