After installing two OEM HP color cartridges, the printer stopped printing, the error message appears and will not clear after power down and restarting. When I place the old cartridges back into the the carriage, The printer see's the cartridge's as depleted and will not print until replaced. I am in an endless loop now. I have always used OEM cartridges without a problem until now.  Please help.

@upsetuser1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're encountering a "Problem with printer or ink system" error after installing OEM HP cartridges in your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. I know how frustrating this can be, especially when you've always used genuine HP supplies. Let's work through this together.

Reset the Printer

A basic reset can often clear temporary system errors.

  • Turn the printer on.
  • With the printer on, disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet and then into the printer.
  • Turn the printer on if it doesn't power up automatically.

Check if the error clears.

Clean the Ink Cartridge and Printhead Contacts

Sometimes, ink or debris on the contacts can cause recognition issues.

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the new cartridges.
  • Gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let everything dry for a few minutes.
  • Reinstall the cartridges and close the door.

Update Printer Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause compatibility issues with new cartridges.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
