Hi @Demerdash,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP printer is displaying a message to use the print cartridges that were supplied with the printer, and those cartridges are no longer available because they were disposed of years ago, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue.
- Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the new genuine colored cartridges you have installed are compatible with your specific HP printer model. Check the printer manual or the HP website to confirm that the cartridges are the correct ones for your printer.
- Reinstall Cartridges: Remove the colored cartridges from the printer and reinstall them. Make sure they are properly seated in their respective slots. Sometimes, reseating the cartridges can resolve connection issues.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Clean the electrical contacts on both the cartridges and the printer. Use a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. Gently wipe the contacts to remove any dirt or residue.
- Update Firmware: Check if there is a firmware update available for your printer on the HP support website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve compatibility issues and improve overall performance.
- Reset Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Plug it back in, turn it on, and check if the error persists. This can help in resetting the printer's internal memory.
- Check Cartridge Expiry Date: Ensure that the cartridges you are using have not expired. Cartridges typically have an expiration date, and using expired cartridges may result in errors. Check the date on the cartridge packaging.
Remember that using genuine HP cartridges is recommended for optimal performance and to avoid compatibility issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
