@andycapp69, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Turn off and unplug the printer

  • Power off the printer.
  • Unplug the printer from the power source for at least 60 seconds. This can help reset the internal components and clear any temporary errors.

Check the Printhead Installation

  • Open the printer’s access door or cartridge compartment.
  • Make sure the printhead or ink cartridges are properly seated. Remove the ink cartridges and printhead if necessary, then reinsert them firmly into their respective slots.
  • If your printer uses a separate printhead, make sure it's correctly installed. If it's not installed properly, the printer may not detect it.

Clean the Printhead Contacts

  • Using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab, gently clean the copper contacts on the printhead and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
  • Sometimes dust, ink, or residue can cause detection problems, preventing the printhead from being recognized.

Check for Obstructions

  • Make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions in the printer that might be interfering with the printhead’s movement.

Reseat the Ink Cartridges

  • Remove each ink cartridge, check for any visible damage, and reseat them in their proper slots. Make sure they click into place correctly.
  • Some printers may require you to reset the cartridge or printhead before it will function.

Inspect the Printhead for Damage

  • If the printhead is damaged or worn out, it may not be properly recognized by the printer.
  • If the printhead appears worn, broken, or has any visible damage, you may need to replace it with a new one.

Perform a Printer Reset

  • If possible, perform a factory reset or a hard reset on the printer. This may help clear any configuration issues causing the error. Refer to your printer's manual for how to reset it.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Sometimes, a firmware update can fix errors related to printhead recognition. Check the manufacturer’s website for any firmware updates and install them as instructed.

Check for Compatibility

  • If you've recently replaced the printhead or ink cartridges, ensure they are compatible with your printer model. Using third-party or non-original parts may sometimes trigger errors.
