HP ENVY Inspire 7255e All-in-One Printer

My printer will not print anything in colour. I have brand new ink cartridges in. I have ‘colour’ selected for printing and still nothing. So I am trying to run a ‘clean cartridges’ on my printer and it’s not doing anything and has been stuck on ‘cleaning cartridges’ screen for 10 minutes. I tried hard resetting my printer and had set it all up again and it I’m still running into the same problem.

Hi @Timara1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating this must be, especially when you’ve just installed brand-new cartridges and expect vibrant prints, only to see no color and a cleaning process stuck for 10 minutes. Let’s get your HP ENVY Inspire 7255e back to printing in full color.

Step 1: Cancel the Stuck Cleaning Process

If the printer is frozen on “Cleaning Cartridges”:

  1. Press the Power button to turn the printer OFF.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the rear and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power ON.

Step 2: Check Cartridge Installation

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Remove both cartridges and inspect:
    • Ensure the protective tape is completely removed.
    • Check for ink or debris on the copper contacts.
  3. Reinsert cartridges firmly until they click.

Step 3: Run a Manual Printhead Cleaning

Instead of using the printer’s stuck cleaning option, use the HP Smart app:

  • Download or open the HP App.
  • Go to Printer Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Run Level 1 cleaning. If color still fails, repeat with Level 2.

Step 4: Check Print Settings

  • On your computer, ensure:
    • Color is selected in print preferences.
    • Print in grayscale is NOT checked.

Step 5: Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause cleaning and color issues:

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I tried all of the suggestions. I did the clean cartridges on the app and it still gets stuck on the “printing” screen while nothing happens.
