HP ENVY Photo 7134 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I am helping a neighbour who has given up with this printer, they bought it a few years ago and have never managed to get it working (they are not tech savvy and just bought another one).  The printer doesn't get past the initialising splash screen and doesn't make a connection to the PC via the usb cable.  Effectively it's DOA!  I have shown them the basic power reset, we have also tried removing the ink.  Is there anything else that can be tried before taking the printer to the weee recycling?

Hi @raymondduck,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY Photo 7134 is stuck on the splash screen and isn't connecting to the PC, here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you can try before considering recycling.

Power Cycle:

  • Disconnect the printer from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cable and try turning on the printer.

Check Power Supply:

  • Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the printer and the power outlet.
  • Try using a different power outlet or power cable if available.

Printer Reset:

  • With the printer turned on, press and hold the power button for about 10-15 seconds until the printer turns off.
  • Wait a few seconds, then turn the printer back on.

Inspect for Jammed Paper or Foreign Objects:

  • Open all accessible areas of the printer (e.g., paper trays, ink cartridge access) and check for any paper jams or foreign objects that might be blocking the printer's internal mechanisms.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • If the printer can be connected to a network, you might be able to update its firmware. You can use the HP Smart app or visit the HP support website for firmware updates. Since the printer isn't connecting, this might be a long shot, but it’s worth checking.

Try a Different USB Port or Cable:

  • Connect the printer to a different USB port on the computer.
  • Use a different USB cable to ensure the cable isn’t faulty.

Printer Self-Test:

  • Some HP printers have a self-test or diagnostic mode. Check the printer’s manual or HP’s support website for instructions on how to initiate a self-test.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for your reply; unfortunately none of those solutions are effective:

  • Powercyle, tried many times
  • tried alt cable / alt power - power supply not an issue
  • reset - no action printer stays on with splash screen see image:IMG_9254[1].JPG
  • No paper, have double checked ink - all good.
  • It's not possible to connect printer to a network
  • Tried in both mac/pc alt usb ports
  • no self test or other troubleshooting options that I can see.

Anything else I can try?
