HP Office Jet Pro 8710 printer.  Touchscreen lights up but does not respond to touches.  Can't do functions at the printer, e.g., copying, faxing, etc., although it does print jobs sent from computer.

Hi @IMASKING, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the touchscreen on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 lights up but does not respond to touch, try these troubleshooting steps:

Restart the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Turn it on and check if the touchscreen responds.

Clean the Touchscreen

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water or a screen-safe cleaner.
  • Gently wipe the screen to remove dirt, dust, or residue.

Reset the Printer

  • If the printer is on, unplug it from the power source while it's running.
  • Hold the Power button for 30 seconds while unplugged.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check for Firmware Updates

If you can still access the printer from your computer:

  • Open the HP Smart app or HP Printer Assistant on your PC.
  • Look for an option to update firmware.
  • Install any available updates and restart the printer.

Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the touchscreen remains unresponsive, try using the printer’s IP address to access settings:

  • Find your printer’s IP address on your router or by printing a Network Configuration Page (done via the HP software).
  • Open a web browser and enter http://<your printer's IP address> in the address bar.
  • Check if there's an option to reset the printer or update firmware.

If the touchscreen still doesn’t work, the digitizer may be faulty and might need replacement. You may have to visit the nearest HP authorized service center.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
