When trying to make a copy, I suddenly get no response from the little touchscreen on the printer. Everything else works when operating from the computer. Printer is used very infrequently.

Hi @makker624,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the touchscreen on your printer isn’t responding while other functions, like printing from a computer, are working fine, it indicates a possible issue with the touchscreen itself or its connection. Here are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

1. Restart the Printer

  1. Power Cycle:
    • Turn off the printer using the power button. Unplug it from the power source and wait for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes resolve minor software glitches affecting the touchscreen.

2. Clean the Touchscreen

Use a Soft Cloth:

  • Gently clean the touchscreen with a soft, lint-free cloth. Ensure that the cloth is slightly damp (not wet) and free of any cleaning agents that could damage the screen.

Avoid Excessive Pressure:

  • When cleaning, avoid pressing too hard on the touchscreen, as this can cause further damage.

3. Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Update Firmware:
    • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can resolve bugs and improve performance. This can usually be done through the printer’s control panel or HP’s website.

4. Inspect for Physical Damage

  1. Check for Cracks or Damage:
    • Examine the touchscreen for any visible cracks or physical damage. Damage to the screen can prevent it from responding correctly.

5. Reset the Printer

Factory Reset:

  • If a power cycle doesn’t resolve the issue, you may need to perform a factory reset. This option is usually found in the printer’s settings menu. Be aware that a factory reset will restore the printer to its original settings, so you may need to reconfigure network settings and other preferences afterward.

Consult the Manual:

  • Refer to your printer’s user manual for specific instructions on how to perform a factory reset. The steps can vary depending on the model.

6. Check for External Factors

Environment:

  • Ensure that the printer is in a suitable environment. Extreme temperatures, high humidity, or dust can affect touchscreen functionality.

Cable Connections:

  • Although less common, check if there are any loose internal cables connecting the touchscreen. This typically requires technical assistance and should only be attempted if you are comfortable opening the printer or have professional help.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
