HP DeskJet 2720

Hi there,

I have a new HP DeskJet 2720.  Yesterday I downloaded the HP Smart App, completed set up, printed a couple of things and all was well.

Today however it is being completely unresponsive. I have tried to print documents through Word and also through the Print Documents section of the app but nothing is happening - no error message or anything.

I have done a full reset of the printer and even uninstalled and re-installed the app, completing the set up again. Still nothing.

Printer status says 'Ready' and I have checked the network status which says the printer is connected.

Can anyone help? I'm about to throw it out the window!

@CharBu912, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Which device are you trying to print from?

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

Try making a standalone copy and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Press and hold the Cancel button  for 3 seconds.

A Printer Status Report prints.

If you are able to make a copy from the flatbed glass and print the test page, it means the printer hardware is working fine.

Check the connectivity between the printer and the device you are trying to print from.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
