Hi @granitosjordan

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details so clearly — I understand how unsettling it is when your printer freezes with a “Printer Failure” message and won’t even power down. Since scanning still works, the core hardware is responsive, which gives us a good starting point.

Let’s guide your printer back to a clean, ready state with a few focused steps.

Step-by-Step Recovery for “Printer Failure” and Power Lockup

1. Force Power Reset

  • Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer while it is still on
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet
  • Wait at least 60 seconds
  • Press and hold the Power button on the printer for 15 seconds (if accessible)
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors)
  • Power on the printer and check the display

2. Inspect All Paper Paths Thoroughly

Even if no jam is visible, sensors may be falsely triggered:

  • Open the main input tray, rear access door, and cartridge access area
  • Remove any paper, even if it looks properly loaded
  • Use a flashlight to check for:
    • Small torn bits of paper
    • Crumpled corners near rollers
    • Obstructions near the duplexer or rear rollers
  • Gently rotate rollers with clean hands or a lint-free cloth

3. Check the Carriage Movement

  • With the printer powered off, open the cartridge access door
  • Gently move the ink carriage left and right to ensure it’s not stuck
  • If it resists, do not force it — just note the position and close the door

4. Reconnect via USB and Use HP App

  • Connect the printer to your Windows PC using a USB cable
  • Open the HP App from the Microsoft Store:
    HP App – Microsoft Store
  • If the printer is detected, go to Printer Settings > Tools > Restore Defaults
  • If not detected, try restarting the app and reconnecting the USB

5. Try a Firmware Recovery (If Available)

  • Some models allow firmware recovery via USB or SD card
  • Let me know your exact printer model and I’ll guide you through that process if supported

Let me know what your printer displays after the forced reset or if it responds to USB connection. You’ve done a great job staying calm and observant — let’s keep going until your printer is back to smooth, reliable operation.
