Hi @CowboyROTR
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
Thanks for bringing this up, and I’m truly sorry you’re dealing with a printer that won’t respond to something as basic as the power button. That’s understandably frustrating—especially when you expect a simple press to shut things down.
Let’s walk through a few steps that can help restore proper power control:
1. Perform a Full Power Drain
- While the printer is still powered on, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge residual electricity.
- Plug the printer back in and try powering off again.
2. Check for Firmware Glitch
- If the printer powers on but won’t turn off, it may be stuck in a firmware loop.
- Visit the official HP support page for your model:
HP Printer Firmware Update- Download the latest firmware and install it using HP Smart or USB connection.
3. Inspect the Power Button Mechanism
- Gently press the power button and feel for a tactile click.
- If it feels loose, stuck, or unresponsive, the physical switch may be faulty.
- Try pressing it with a firm, deliberate motion—not too hard, but not too light.
4. Use HP Smart App or Embedded Web Server
- If the button fails, you can shut down the printer via software:
- Open the HP Smart App or type the printer’s IP address into a browser.
- Navigate to Settings > Power Management and initiate a shutdown or sleep mode.
If none of these steps resolve the issue, the power button circuit may be damaged or the logic board may be failing to register the signal. In that case, our phone support or a service center visit would be the safest next step.
