Printer won't come offline

HP Recommended
Surface Pro 4
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My HP Envy 5500 will not come offline. I've gone to the printer queue and tried to click off of "use printer offline" but its not working. It's like it didn't register my click. I've re-installed my software, re-started my printer, re-connected to my router, everything. I've gone through virtual agent and I'd really like to talk to an actual tech, which I was able to do a few years ago when I got the printer (connection issues, who could have guessed it), but seems unavailable now. Any suggestions?

@caroleigh84, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Do you mean you cannot get the printer online?

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network.
  • This printer supports only 2.4GHz network. So, the PC should be on the 2.4GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.
  • Restart the wireless router, the printer and the PC. Try printing.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver/connectivity issues

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

If the printer is still not connected to the wireless network,

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
