@goldyfalk, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.
If your HP OfficeJet 4650 is connected to Wi-Fi but you're seeing a "Waiting for printer connection..." dialog when trying to print, here are some steps to help resolve the issue:
Confirm Printer is Online
- On the printer's control panel, tap the Wi-Fi icon or go to Settings > Wireless Settings.
- Ensure it shows Connected and the IP address is listed.
- If not, reconnect using Wireless Setup Wizard.
Restart Devices
- Power off your printer, computer, and router.
- Wait 30 seconds, then power them back on in this order: router → printer → computer.
Check Printer Status in Windows
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer > See what's printing.
- If there's a print job stuck, click Printer > Cancel All Documents.
- Ensure the printer is set as default and not offline.
Reinstall the Printer Driver
- Remove the printer from Devices and Printers.
- Download the full driver/software package: Official HP® Support
Assign a Static IP (Optional but Recommended)
- On the printer, go to Settings > Network Setup > Advanced Settings > IP Settings.
- Set a Manual IP using your router’s IP range (e.g., 192.168.1.240).
- Then, update the printer port in Windows:
- Go to Devices and Printers > Printer Properties > Ports > Add Port > Standard TCP/IP Port.
I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.
Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
