@Lisacarducci21, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP ENVY 6542e states that it's out of paper and it’s not, here are some steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

Check the Paper Tray:

  • Ensure that the paper is properly loaded in the paper tray. Make sure it is all aligned neatly without being overly packed or too freely loaded.

Check the Paper Size and Type:

  • Make sure the paper size you have selected on your printer matches the size of the paper in the tray.
  • Make sure the paper type (plain, photo, etc.) is correctly set for the document you are trying to print.

Remove and Reload Paper:

  • Remove the paper from the tray and realign it. Check for and remove any loose paper fragments or debris.
  • Reload the paper, ensuring the paper guides are adjusted to fit snugly against the paper while not constricting it.

Clean Paper Rollers:

  • Dust and debris on the paper rollers can cause paper feeding issues.
  • Turn off the printer, and unplug it from the power source. Gently clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth, lightly moistened with water.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it. Wait about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on. This can sometimes resolve minor mechanical errors.

Update or Reinstall Print Drivers:

  • Ensure your printer drivers are up-to-date. You can find and download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Inspect the inside of the printer for any jammed paper and remove it carefully.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
