Deskjet 3845
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

My printer was OK but suddenly has stopped running.   The green power light just keeps flashing.   Test prints, etc. just don't run.   I have put in a new cassette but with no joy.   Have disconnected it and reconnected it, have uninstalled and reinstalled it but the same result every time.   Green power light flashes but no signs of printing at all.  Lifting and closing the hood brings out and returns the cassettes correctly but that's all!

No message shows on the Pc screen and banding is/was not apparent on prints.   This last point cannot be confirmed now, obviously, because of the fault in question.

Hello, @BrianJoyce

I understand that there are no error messages on the pc screen. Hence, follow the steps listed under each section listed in the document. Especially "Out of paper" & "Paper jam" section.

Once done, perform a power drain as suggested below:

  • Remove the cartridges from the printer.
  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Let me know how that goes!

Cheers 🙂

I went through that sequence completely, full of hope, but the green power light continues to flash as soon as it's turned on.

Should I scrap this 3845 and buy another printer?   Pity, if so, because it has been doing a pretty good job in general, once it's working!

Hello, @BrianJoyce

It looks like a hardware issue with the printer itself. Please contact the HP phone support for the printer service / upgrade options.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Good luck 🙂

I got as far as entering my printer's serial and product numbers only to be told that, unsurprisingly, it was outside of warranty time.   From that point onward it appears that there would be a cost for advice and I suspect that the money might be better spent on another machine.

Hello, @BrianJoyce

I also agree that it would be better to purchase a new printer as this is an obsolete model.

You can find many single function and multi-function printers which will better suit your printing needs. Please check http://store.hp.com/ for more options.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂

Thanks for trying to help restore my 3845 prior to it's funeral.   Shame about the exising cartridges no longer useable though.    I have, today, ordered an  HP DESKJET 3630 PRINTER to replace it.   I trust you approve of this step!

Thanks again,
