Printer currently won’t stop printing. Everytime I cancel the job it picks back up and resumes printing. Tried shutting down but when turned on the printing continues. Tried using app to see if I can cancel any prints in Que but no other jobs appear.

Hi @Jvlop824,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer keeps printing nonstop, even after canceling jobs, shutting down, or checking the print queue. Let’s go through steps to fix this.

1. Cancel All Print Jobs Manually

On Windows:

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, press Enter.

Find Print Spooler, right-click → Stop.

Open C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files inside (requires admin rights).

Go back to Services, right-click Print Spooler, and select Start.

On Mac:

Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners, select your printer → Open Print Queue → cancel all jobs.

If jobs keep reappearing, restart the printer and Mac, then reset the printing system: right-click in the printer list → Reset printing system (this will remove all printers, so you’ll need to re-add your printer).

2. Disconnect the Printer from Network / USB

If it’s networked, turn off Wi-Fi or unplug the Ethernet cable.

If USB, disconnect it.

Power cycle the printer and computer.

3. Restart Devices

Turn off the printer completely, unplug for 60 seconds.

Restart your computer.

Reconnect the printer and test printing a single page.

4. Check for Stuck Jobs from Apps

Sometimes a specific application (Word, PDF reader) keeps sending jobs.

Close all applications, then try printing again.

5. Update / Reinstall Printer Driver

Corrupt drivers can cause jobs to repeat.

Uninstall the printer driver completely.

Reinstall the latest driver from HP Smart or HP Support.

6. Hard Reset Printer

Many HP printers have a reset function: hold Power button + Cancel button for 10–15 seconds (varies by model) or check the manual.

This clears any residual print jobs stored internally.

I hope this helps.
