I had an error flash on my printer. So I unplugged it and plugged it back in and now it will not turn on.

Hi @Whoppersb

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That’s frustrating! A printer refusing to turn on after an error message can be caused by a power issue, firmware glitch, or internal hardware failure.

Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to get it working again.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting for a Printer That Won’t Turn On

Step 1: Check the Power Source

  • Ensure the power cord is firmly connected to both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Try plugging the printer into a different wall outlet to rule out a faulty power source.
  • If you’re using a power strip or surge protector, plug the printer directly into the wall.

Step 2: Perform a Power Reset

  1. Unplug the printer from the power source.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds to allow residual power to drain.
  3. Plug the printer back in and press the power button.
  4. If the printer doesn’t turn on, try pressing the power button multiple times or holding it for a few seconds.

Step 3: Check for a Faulty Power Cord

  • Inspect the power cord for damage or loose connections.
  • If possible, try using a different power cord that matches your printer’s specifications.
  • Some HP printers have external power adapters—if yours does, check if the adapter is functioning.

Step 4: Reset the Printer’s Internal Components

  1. Unplug the printer and remove any connected USB or network cables.
  2. If your printer has a removable battery, take it out.
  3. Hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining power.
  4. Reconnect everything and try turning the printer on.
