Hp officer 5740 all in one printer.  Won’t print regular documents.  Error keeps popping up saying, photo tray is blocked.

If your HP OfficeJet 5740 All-in-One printer is showing an error message stating that the photo tray is blocked when you're trying to print regular documents, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot this issue.

 

  • Check the photo tray: Ensure that there are no obstructions or foreign objects blocking the photo tray. Sometimes, even small objects can trigger the sensor and cause the error message to appear.
  • Reset the printer: Turn off the printer, disconnect the power cord from the back, and wait for about a minute. Then, reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on. This can sometimes reset the printer's sensors and resolve the issue.
  • Update printer firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer model on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes fix bugs and issues that cause error messages.
  • Clean the photo tray rollers: Dust and debris on the rollers can sometimes cause the tray to get stuck or trigger error messages. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water to gently clean the rollers.
  • Check paper settings: Make sure that the paper settings in the printer driver or software match the paper size and type that you're using. Incorrect settings can sometimes cause the printer to think that the photo tray is in use.
  • Inspect for damage: Check the photo tray for any signs of damage or misalignment. 

 

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there may be a hardware problem with the printer, such as a faulty sensor or mechanism in the photo tray.
