Hi @Cecy7,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer starts blinking after changing an ink cartridge and is not responding as expected, there could be several issues at play. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem:
1. Check Ink Cartridge Installation
- Reinstall Cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are properly installed. Remove and reseat the cartridges, ensuring they are firmly in place and correctly oriented.
- Check for Protective Tape: Ensure that any protective tape or plastic covers have been removed from the new cartridges.
2. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
- Use Correct Cartridges: Confirm that the new cartridges are compatible with your printer model. Using incorrect or non-genuine cartridges can cause issues.
3. Check for Error Messages
- Display or LED Indicators: Look for any error messages or codes on the printer's display screen or as indicated by the blinking lights. Refer to the printer’s manual for details on error codes.
4. Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn Off and Unplug: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug In and Restart: Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and see if it starts functioning normally.
5. Check Paper and Print Queue
- Paper Jam: Inspect the printer for any paper jams or obstructions that might be causing issues.
- Print Queue: Ensure there are no stalled print jobs in the queue. Go to “Devices and Printers” in Windows, select your printer, and view the print queue to clear any stuck jobs.
6. Perform Printer Self-Test
- Print Test Page: Try printing a test page or a diagnostic page directly from the printer’s control panel if it has one. This can help determine if the printer is capable of printing and if the issue is related to the ink cartridges.
7. Check Ink Levels
- Ink Cartridge Levels: Verify the ink levels to ensure that the cartridges are not empty or low. Some printers will not operate if they detect low ink levels.
8. Reset Printer to Factory Settings
- Factory Reset: If possible, perform a factory reset of the printer. This option is usually found in the printer’s menu under “Settings” or “Maintenance.”
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
