@Intell65, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The “User Intervention Required” error on your HP OfficeJet 3831 All-in-One Printer usually means the printer needs some form of manual action before it can continue printing. Here's a checklist to resolve the issue:
1. Check the Basics
- Make sure the printer is powered on and connected properly (via Wi-Fi or USB).
- Ensure paper is loaded correctly in the tray.
- Check for any paper jams or obstructions.
- Open the front panel and ensure the cartridges are seated correctly.
2. Restart Everything
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Restart your computer.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
- Try printing again.
3. Clear the Print Queue
On Windows:
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your HP printer and choose “See what’s printing”.
- Cancel all pending jobs.
On macOS:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer, click “Open Print Queue”, and cancel all jobs.
4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows)
- Download from: HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Open it and follow the prompts to detect and fix issues automatically.
5. Update/Reinstall the Printer Driver
- Go to HP driver page for the OfficeJet 3831.
- Download the latest full feature software and driver for your OS.
- Uninstall the current driver (if needed) and reinstall with the downloaded version.
6. Disable 'User Intervention' Message in Printer Properties (Windows)
- Go to Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer > Printer Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab and ensure “Enable advanced printing features” is checked.
- Click Apply, then try printing.
7. Firmware Update (Optional)
- Sometimes a firmware update fixes weird behavior.
- On the printer: Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
