Hi @Kingfisher16,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I completely understand how frustrating this can be, especially after going through computer repairs. You expect everything to work smoothly, and then this “Expired Certificate” error pops up like an unwelcome guest. Let me explain what’s happening and how to fix it.
What Does “Expired Certificate” Mean?
Your printer uses a security certificate to establish a trusted connection with your computer or network. If that certificate is outdated or invalid, the system blocks printing for security reasons. This often happens after:
- System repairs or OS updates
- Reinstalling printer software
- Firmware not updated
How to Fix It
Step 1: Update Printer Firmware
- Go to HP’s official site:
👉 Official HP® Support - Enter your printer model and download the latest firmware update.
- Install it and restart the printer.
Step 2: Remove and Reinstall Printer
- On your computer, remove the printer from Devices & Printers.
- Download and install the latest HP Smart app or Full Feature Software from HP’s site.
- Re-add the printer using the updated software.
Step 3: Check Date & Time Settings
- Ensure your computer and printer have the correct date and time. Incorrect settings can cause certificate errors.
Step 4: Disable HTTPS Temporarily (Optional)
- Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address in your browser.
- Go to Settings > Security > HTTPS and disable it temporarily. (Only do this if you trust your network and want a quick workaround.)

I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
