I have an HP smart tank 7005 series printer. It is persistently reporting print head errors. I have gone through the troubleshooting several times and cleaned the print heads, and upon replacing the printer prints but very soon after the errors appear again. Can anyone help

Hi there @Arkyras, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

I understand how frustrating persistent printhead errors can be, especially after cleaning and replacing them. Let's walk through the most effective steps to resolve this issue on your HP Smart Tank 7005 series printer.

Identify Which Printhead Is Causing the Error

  • Non-touchscreen printers: Check if the Attention light and either the Black or Tri-color printhead icon is blinking.

This helps determine whether the issue is with the Black, Tri-color, or both printheads.

Check Installation and Condition of Printheads

Ensure ink tanks are at least half full and paper is loaded.

Open the ink access door and wait for the carriage to stop.

Press the blue button to open the printhead cover.

Gently remove the affected printhead:

  • Hold it upright to avoid ink leaks.
  • Remove the plug from the top of the new printhead.
  • Remove the protective tape from the copper contacts.
  • ⚠️ Do not touch the copper contacts or ink nozzles.

Reinsert the printhead until it snaps into place.

Close the printhead cover and ink access door.

Align the Printheads

  • If your printer has a touchscreen, follow the prompts to print and scan the Alignment Page.
  • If not, the printer will automatically print the page when the letter A blinks on the control panel.

If Errors Persist After Replacement

  • The issue may be with the printhead carriage, electrical contacts, or a defective replacement printhead.
  • Try cleaning the printhead contacts gently with a lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.
  • If the problem continues, consider replacing the printhead again, we suggest you please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
