Printer worked fine until yesterday when I replaced the pink cartridge, using HP 951 XL Magenta. Now I get the “printhead appears to missing, not detected, or incorrectly installed.” I’ve tried resetting the printer, reseating the carriage multiple times and still have the error. As the printer had no problems prior to changing the cartridge, I think the printhead is fine. And since I used HP ink cartridge, that should not have been the cause. I don’t want to shell out money to replace the printer. What other solutions are there?
Insert the old Magenta ink cartridge and check if the error persists, by this we can conclude the defective part in the printer.
If the error persists, I'm afraid, it seems like a hardware failure either with the printhead or the ink cartridges. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options.
If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Well, I tried all the suggestions, including putting in old cartridge, and it still has the error. So, it seems I need a new printer. However, I just purchased a 950XL and 951XL combo box of cartridges. I opened the box to change the pink cartridge as stated in my original message. Now that I have removed it and put in the old cartridge, I have an open box of unused cartridges and the current printers available to purchase don’t use these. Can I return the unused cartridges to HP and get a refund?
