HP 8710,  I have followed all the trouble shooting steps and I am still getting this error. Printhead is Missing, Not Detected, or Not Properly Installed.   Is it time to get a new printer?

Hi @RENTASPACE,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to still be getting the "Printhead is Missing, Not Detected, or Not Properly Installed" error despite following the troubleshooting steps. Here are a few things you can try before considering a new printer.

  • Check the Printhead: Ensure the printhead is properly installed and seated. Sometimes, it can be misaligned or not fully inserted. Gently remove and reinstall the printhead to make sure it’s secure.
  • Clean the Printhead Contacts: Use a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with water or isopropyl alcohol to clean the metal contacts on both the printhead and the printer’s contact points. Dirty contacts can cause communication errors.
  • Reset the Printer: Sometimes a hard reset can help clear any internal errors. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Firmware Update: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Sometimes, a firmware update can resolve printhead errors if it’s a known issue.
  • Test with a New Printhead: If possible, try installing a different printhead, or borrow one from a compatible HP printer. If the new printhead is detected, it may indicate the original printhead is faulty.
  • Check for Ink Cartridge Issues: Some printers require the cartridges to be properly installed for the printhead to be recognized. Ensure your cartridges are not causing the issue, and test with a set of new cartridges if needed.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it could indicate a deeper hardware malfunction, such as a damaged printhead, or an issue with the motherboard or circuitry of the printer itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
