Hi @MoAnne1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Smart Tank 7005 is flashing an orange exclamation mark along with two objects and can’t print, this typically indicates a problem with the printheads. Here are the steps you can follow to resolve the issue:

1. Identify the Blinking Icons

  • Left icon blinking = issue with color printhead
  • Right icon blinking = issue with black printhead
  • Amber exclamation mark = general error or warning

2. Reseat the Printheads

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it
  2. Open the front cover and locate the printhead latch
  3. Gently lift the latch and remove both printheads
  4. Check for:
    • Ink buildup or debris on the contacts
    • Bent pins or misalignment
  5. Reinsert the printheads firmly and close the latch
  6. Close the cover and power on the printer

This step resolves most blinking icon issues.

3. Run Printhead Cleaning and Alignment

If the printer boots normally:

  • Use the control panel or HP Smart app to run:
    • Printhead Cleaning
    • Alignment
  • This ensures proper ink flow and calibration

4. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause persistent error states:

5. Factory Reset (if needed)

If the error persists:

  • Press and hold the Cancel + Wireless buttons together for 10 seconds
  • This resets the printer to factory defaults

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
