HP PSC 1209 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I was in the middle of a print job when my printer red "Check Cartridge" light started flashing. Changed both black and color cartridges. When I closed the printer door the printer is supposed to "AUTOMATICALLY" print a print cartridge alignment sheet which it did NOT do. My printer will not turn off, red error light still flashing. I have removed the power cord from the back of the printer and also from the electrical outlet, waited 60 seconds, plugged everything back in. I also "restarted" my computer. Printer still has flashing red light. I have also gently cleaned both new cartridges as well as the printer electrodes to remove any buildup. Also when I go into "Settings" on my computer to check for printer status it shows " Printer Idle".

Any troubleshooting tips would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi @Lynda661,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with your printer that has cartridge error.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, refer to the steps on this link to further troubleshoot.

Thank you so much for your response; however, due to the age of the equipment I decided to buy an updated printer. I do appreciate your time in matter.
