I have a HP Deskjet 4100e and having problem printing …When trying to”color printing” only yellow shaded details show; When trying Black/White or Grayscale the documents come out blank

Have checked printing ink cartridges and they are fine and no Error shows up when printing

Thought it might be HP Smart Printing App so uninstalled that and reinstalled but does not change the result

Hi @KTKing

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering a frustrating printing issue with your HP Deskjet 4100e. Since the ink cartridges are fine and there are no error messages, here are some possible causes and steps you can take to troubleshoot:

1. Check the Ink Cartridge Status

  • Yellow Ink Only: Since you mentioned that only yellow details appear when printing in color, it's possible that the cyan or magenta ink cartridges are either empty or not functioning properly. Even though the cartridges may seem "fine," sometimes the printer may not detect them correctly.
  • Test Ink Cartridge Alignment: Some printers have alignment settings that can be miscalibrated. Run a cartridge alignment check through the printer's settings (usually found on the printer's control panel or within the printer software).
  • Clean the Ink Cartridges: Over time, ink can clog the printhead, especially if the printer is not used frequently. Try cleaning the ink cartridges or printheads using the printer’s built-in cleaning function (available via the printer settings on the computer or from the printer’s control panel).

2. Check Print Settings

  • Print Settings in the App: When printing, make sure you’re selecting the correct settings. Double-check that you’re not accidentally printing in "draft" mode or selecting any settings that might cause blank output.
  • Print Color Settings: If you're trying to print in black and white but the output is blank, ensure that the print setting is set to “Black Ink Only” (not “Color” or “Color Ink Only”). Also, ensure that "Grayscale" is selected properly under the print preferences.

3. Update Printer Driver

  • Sometimes, outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause issues like this. Even though you've already reinstalled the HP Smart App, you might still need to update or reinstall the printer driver. You can download the latest driver from HP’s official website. Make sure to select the correct model and operating system version.
  • Driver Update: After reinstalling, restart the printer and computer to see if the problem is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
