When attempting to replace Black Ink cartridge HP 61 I am getting the error message "incompatible cartridge".  I have followed all instructions to fix but still keep getting that message on a brand new cartridge.  Currently I am printing in the single cartridge mode.  Has anyone else encountered this and found a resolution?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

If you insert your old ink, do you get the error message?

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  1. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you .continue
  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  4. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  5. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  7. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  8. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-5530-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5304881/model/5304882/...
