I have a HP Officejet 6700 Premium and I change the ink cartridge and now is giving me an error saying there is a problem with the ink system. it would not let me go home or do anything else. Already unplug the printer and took out the cartridge and nothing is working.  Please advise what else can I do? I need this for work.

Hi @MM0803

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm sorry you're facing this issue, especially when you need your printer for work. The "problem with the ink system" error can be frustrating, but here are some steps you can try to resolve it:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  3. Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid using a surge protector or power strip).
  4. Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Step 2: Clean the Ink Cartridges and Printhead

  1. Remove all ink cartridges from the printer.
  2. Check for any protective tape on the cartridges and remove it if present.
  3. Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and the printhead.
  4. Reinstall the cartridges and ensure they are seated properly.

Step 3: Reset the Ink System

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Remove the ink cartridges and close the cartridge access door.
  3. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Reinstall the cartridges when prompted.

Step 4: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Visit the Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support for your Officejet 6700 Premium.
  2. Download and install the latest firmware update for your printer model.

Step 5: Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download the Official HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows | Free Download hppsdr.exe tool.
  2. Run the tool to diagnose and fix any ink system issues.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
