I noticed that the pipes connecting the tanks to the print head were not full, as if there was too much air or a problem with the communicating vessels. In any case, the coloured inks had risen at least once in the pipes, as the plastic was stained by the ink and the ink was in half of the pipes.

@hausser, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Smart Tank printer is experiencing air bubbles or incomplete ink flow in the tubes connecting the ink tanks to the printhead. This can affect print quality and may indicate a priming or ink delivery issue. Here's how you can resolve it:

Perform an Air Drain (if supported by your printer model)

Some HP Smart Tank models allow manual air draining via the printer's service menu:

  1. On the printer UI, go to:
    • Main > Service Center > Diagnostics
  2. Select Ink Water System and then All Ink Stations.
  3. For each color tab:
    • Open Tank Water Valve
    • Open Bypass Water Valve
    • Open Inlet Water Valve
    • Open Heating Pump Valve
  4. Wait 7 minutes for the air to drain.
  5. Close all valves.

Check Printer Leveling

Air bubbles can form if the printer is not placed on a level surface.

  • Place a small round object (like a marble) on top of the printer.
  • If it rolls, adjust the printer until it stays still.

Refill Ink Tanks Properly

  • Ensure all tanks are filled with genuine HP ink.
  • Avoid overfilling or leaving tanks too low, which can introduce air.

Clean and Align Printheads

If ink flow is partially restored but print quality is poor:

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Go to Menu > Tools > Troubleshooting > Print Quality
    • Run Clean Printhead and Align Printhead

Replace Printheads (if necessary)

If cleaning doesn't help and ink still doesn't flow properly, consider replacing the printheads.
