Problems staying connected to Mac

HP Recommended
HP Envy Photo 7855
macOS 10.14 Mojave

My new printer will not stay connected to my Macbook. If the printer goes into sleep mode, and the computer has also been in sleep mode and I open the Macbook and try and print, it will say "printer is offline". Sometimes I have to have the Macbook open and restart the printer while the computer is open, but sometimes I have to restart both. Everyone recommended an HP but this is a pain. I want to leave the printer on and my computer on, and when I open the lid to the computer I just need to be able to print without all this restarting. Help??

@LDomenick, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Assuming that the printer is connected wirelessly, I'd like to know the following-

Are you able to print fine without any issues when the devices are on and connected?

Have you checked the sleep mode settings on the printer? Here is how you do it-

On the printer front panel, go to Setup menu > Power management > Sleep mode > Set the timer to max.

Also, Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
