@Norahartois, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP printer is stuck in a frustrating loop—refusing to print, displaying error messages like "printer busy," and getting stuck during shutdowns. Let's walk through some steps to get it back on track:
Power Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer off (if it's stuck, unplug it).
- Unplug the power cable from both the wall and the back of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid using power strips).
- Turn it on again.
Clear the Print Queue
- On your computer:
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer and select See what's printing.
- Click Printer > Cancel All Documents.
Check for Jammed Jobs or Status
- Ensure the printer:
- Isn’t displaying any paper jam, cartridge, or network errors.
- Shows Ready/Idle on the screen (if it has one).
Reinstall the Printer Drivers
- Uninstall the current printer from your PC.
- Go to the HP Software & Drivers site and download the latest drivers for your model.
- Reinstall using the full HP Smart app or setup software.
Try HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only)
- Download it here: HP Print and Scan Doctor.
- Run the tool—it can automatically fix many common printing issues.
Check Connection
- If you’re using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your PC.
- Try printing via USB cable to test if it’s a network issue.
Factory Reset (Optional if issues persist)
Caution: This will erase all settings, including Wi-Fi configuration.
- Look in the printer menu for Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
