I keep receiving the error message 0x6100004a on my printer about a paper jam. There is no paper jam. Then it keeps telling me to turn off and then turn my printer back on. Then it states that it was turned off inproperly which is wasn't and it keeps cycling through these messages. Before this started I was having issues with the printer heads, if I hadn't printed anything in a couple of days I had to keep doing the printer head clean up and each time 2 - 3 times.

Hi @brenda9J,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message 0x6100004a on your HP printer typically indicates a paper jam or carriage jam, but it can also be caused by issues with the printer's hardware or firmware. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

Power Reset:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open all accessible doors and trays on the printer.
  • Carefully inspect the printer for any small pieces of paper or debris that might be causing the jam.
  • Gently remove any found paper or debris.

Check the Carriage:

  • Open the printer's access door to view the carriage area.
  • Ensure that the carriage can move freely from side to side. If it is stuck, gently move it to the center.
  • Remove any obstructions or debris in the carriage path.

Clean the Printhead:

  • Turn on the printer and access the printer's control panel.
  • Go to the maintenance or settings menu and select the option to clean the printhead.
  • Perform a printhead cleaning cycle and repeat if necessary.

Firmware Update:

  • Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware update for your printer model.
  • Follow the instructions provided on the website to install the firmware update.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a factory reset on your printer. Note that this will reset all settings to their defaults.
  • Refer to the printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a factory reset, or check the HP Support website for detailed steps.

Check for Hardware Issues:

  • Inspect the printer for any visible signs of damage or wear.
  • Ensure that all cables and connections are secure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
