@natch1,

Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query.

The red light and the "E" (error) sign blinking on your printer's control panel usually indicate an issue such as a paper jam, low ink, or a problem with the cartridges.

Here’s how you can troubleshoot:

Check for Paper Jams

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the printer’s access doors and check for any jammed paper.
  • Gently remove any stuck paper.
  • Close all covers and turn the printer back on.

Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the ink cartridge compartment.
  • Remove the cartridges and check for any leaks or damage.
  • Reinsert them securely and ensure they are properly seated.
  • Close the compartment and check if the error clears.

Check for Low Ink or Empty Cartridges

  • The small blinking color and black ink icons suggest an issue with ink levels.
  • If the ink levels are low, replace the cartridges with new ones.

Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 2 minutes.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.

Verify Printer Cover and Paper Tray

  • Ensure all covers and trays are fully closed.
  • Make sure there is paper loaded properly in the tray.

If the issue persists, let me know the printer model, and I can provide model-specific troubleshooting steps.
