Hi @CPUDon

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus is making a squeaky sound while printing, it could indicate a mechanical issue or something stuck in the printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check for Obstructions

  • Open the Printer: Power off the printer and open the access doors to inspect for any jammed paper or foreign objects inside the printer.
  • Remove Any Debris: Carefully remove any paper scraps or other obstructions that might be causing the noise.

2. Inspect the Paper Path

  • Check the paper path for any bends or damage that might cause the paper to rub against internal components.
  • Make sure the paper is loaded correctly and that the tray is not overfilled.

3. Clean the Rollers

  • Over time, the rollers can accumulate dust and debris, which can cause noise. Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with water:
    • Locate the Rollers: Access them by opening the printer.
    • Wipe Gently: Wipe the rollers while manually rotating them to remove dust.

4. Check the Ink Cartridges

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed. Sometimes, loose cartridges can cause noise.
  • Remove and reinstall the cartridges to make sure they’re seated correctly.

5. Run Printer Maintenance

  • Use the printer's maintenance functions to check for and resolve any issues:
    • On the control panel, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead or similar options.

6. Lubricate Moving Parts (if necessary)

  • If you’re comfortable doing so, you can try to lubricate any moving parts, such as the printhead rails. Use a small amount of a suitable lubricant. Be very careful and avoid over-lubricating.

7. Test with Different Paper

  • Sometimes, the type of paper can affect the printing process. Try using a different type or brand of paper to see if the squeak persists.

8. Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. You can check for updates via the HP website or the HP Smart app.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Rachel 571

I followed your "roller squeak" repair procedure.

The paper loads correctly but does continue to

have a rolling squeak. I found no paper scraps

and had limited access, only looking into the

paper feeder with the paper tray removed.

So not much to see there.

I didn't really have access to clean the rollers,

but did minivacuum some small pile of paper dust.

I next went to the control panel and prompted two

levels of clean printhead procedure. The only result

was that I was promped to replace the blue and yellow

print cartridges, which I did. (got to pay the piper I guess!)

Still has the papertray feed squeek.

I probably could lubricate the moving parts if I could

have the access to do so and some technical help.

Is there a more detailed maintenace procedure to

outline this and also give me more info on the "proper

lubricant"? Thanks for your help.

CPU Don.

P.S. I did clean the printer cartridge rail yesterday,

which was plenty nasty with black ink.

This is a 2012 printer, so maybe its time to replace?

CPU Don.

Rachel:

Can you suggest a replacement printer model?

The printer is 12 years old and Its probably time.

Thanks, CPU Don.
