I have a HP Laser jet Pro MFP M281fdw. We were using aftermarket toners, which worked fine, until the Cyan depleted. We installed a replacement and the printer wouldn't recognize it. We changed it out with several more aftermarket, even changing the colors that hadn't depleted yet. It would only print when it shut down and then when turned back on the document in queue would print. We changed to HP brand toners and the 49 Service Error/Turn Off Then On popped up. Now it is a continuous loop trying to restart itself.

Depending on when this happened, it may be related to the issue being experienced by numerous other users. A automatic firmware update that was released late last month contained a flaw that appears to have caused this issue. HP is aware of the situation but has not released any sort of fix yet. If your situation started at that time, then it is possible that you are affected. Currently the only resolution is to replace the formatter on the printer, but this is not an HP sanctioned solution which means you would be paying for it yourself at this point. There is no confirmed time when a fix will be available.
