Samsung Xpress M2020

The lights are on but once the printer has sat unused for several hours it won't print and says it's off line. If I unplug it, it will then print usually, though yesterday it did 3 of the 5 print jobs and stopped and even unplugging it didn't get it to work again. What worked was opening the lid. This morning I did the lid trick again (instead of unplugging) and that worked. What is going on and how do I get my printer to just print with out having to unplug/open the lid?
