SavePrintOutputAs - what is this?

Hi @Scotty722,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Save Print Output As" dialog typically appears when your printer's output is redirected to a file rather than being sent to a physical printer. This can happen for a few reasons:

Causes:

Microsoft Print to PDF or XPS Printer Selected:

  • If you accidentally selected a virtual printer like "Microsoft Print to PDF" or "XPS Document Writer," the system prompts you to save the print output as a file.

HP Print to File Option Enabled:

  • Some HP printers or their drivers may have an option to "Print to File" that was toggled on. This saves the print job as a file instead of sending it to the printer.

Printer Driver Issue:

  • A misconfiguration or an update to your printer's driver could cause this behavior.

Software-Specific Print Settings:

  • Certain software programs (e.g., CAD applications or specialized editors) may override system settings and direct print jobs to a file.

How to Fix It:

Check Printer Selection:

  • Before printing, ensure that the correct physical printer is selected in the print dialog box.

Disable "Print to File":

  • When the print dialog box appears, look for a checkbox labeled "Print to File." Ensure this option is unchecked.

Set the Correct Default Printer:

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (Windows) or System Preferences > Printers & Scanners (Mac).
  • Right-click your HP printer and select "Set as default printer."

Restart Your Printer and Computer:

  • This can help reset any temporary misconfigurations.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your printer model. Install it and test again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
