Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

If your HP OfficeJet 6700 is showing a "missing or incorrectly installed printhead" message, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check the Printhead Installation

  • Turn Off the Printer: Start by turning off the printer and unplugging it.
  • Open the Printer: Open the access door to the printhead area.
  • Remove the Printhead: Carefully remove the printhead by releasing the lever or latch that holds it in place.
  • Inspect the Printhead: Check for any damage or debris on the printhead and its contacts. Clean the contacts gently with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab if needed.

2. Reinstall the Printhead

  • Reinstall: Once you’ve inspected and cleaned the printhead, carefully reinstall it by aligning it properly and pressing down until it clicks into place.
  • Close the Access Door: Close the printer’s access door securely.

3. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Inspect Cartridges: Make sure the ink cartridges are correctly installed. Remove and reseat them if necessary.
  • Check Expiry: Ensure the ink cartridges are not expired or dry.

4. Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle: Turn the printer back on after ensuring everything is properly installed. Sometimes a power cycle can resolve minor issues.

5. Run Printer Diagnostics

  • Use HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can help diagnose and fix issues automatically.

6. Update Firmware

  • Check for Updates: Visit the HP support website to see if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Install any updates that are applicable.
  • Click here to install the firmware

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
