Hi @khvd,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're encountering issues with the scan function on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a printer, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Check Connections: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or network via USB or Ethernet cable, depending on your setup. If it's a network-connected printer, ensure that it's properly connected to the network and that your computer can communicate with it.
  • Restart Devices: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve communication issues between the printer and the computer. Restart both your printer and your computer, then try scanning again.
  • Check Scanner Drivers: Ensure that the appropriate scanner drivers are installed on your computer. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website. Make sure to download drivers specifically for your operating system.
  • Update Firmware: Ensure that your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates using the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP website.
  • Configure Firewall/Antivirus Settings: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software may block communication between your computer and the printer. Temporarily disable these programs and see if scanning works. If it does, you may need to configure your firewall or antivirus settings to allow communication with the printer.
  • Check Scanner Settings: Make sure that the scanner is enabled and properly configured on your computer. You can typically find scanner settings in the control panel or settings menu of your computer's operating system.
  • Reset Printer Settings: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. Refer to your printer's user manual for instructions on how to perform a reset.
  • Check Hardware Connections: Ensure that all cables are securely connected to the printer and that there are no physical issues with the scanner hardware.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to resolve most common issues preventing the scanner function from working on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28a printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
