Hi @Dabarca71

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for explaining the issue so clearly—and I’m truly sorry your printer is showing a message about a problem with the ink system. That kind of interruption can be frustrating, especially when everything seems to be in place.

Let’s walk through a focused recovery to help clear the error and restore printing.

Step-by-Step: Fix “Problem with Printer or Ink System” Message

1. Perform a Power Reset

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on.

This clears temporary faults and resets the ink system logic.

2. Check Ink Cartridges

  • Open the cartridge access door and gently remove all cartridges.
  • Inspect for:
    • Protective tape still attached
    • Ink buildup or leaks
    • Bent or damaged contacts
  • Reinsert cartridges firmly into their correct slots.

If using refilled or third-party cartridges, try replacing with genuine HP cartridges to rule out compatibility issues.

3. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
  • Let everything dry for 5 minutes before reinserting and powering on.

Dirty or oxidized contacts can trigger ink system errors.

4. Update Printer Firmware

Visit: HP Printer Firmware Updates

Select your printer model and download the latest firmware utility.

Run the update via USB or network connection.

Firmware updates often resolve ink system detection issues.

5. Run HP App Diagnostics

  • Open the HP App on your PC or mobile device
  • Go to Support > Printer Diagnostics
  • Run the Ink System Test and Print Test

These tools can detect and clear internal ink system faults.

Let me know how the printer responds after the reset and cartridge check. If needed, I can guide you through preparing a clean startup or checking ink levels via the HP App.

You're doing everything right—this sequence should help restore smooth printing.
