Hi @Albert2121
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I'm really sorry your OfficeJet Pro 7740 is showing the C4EB863F error during scanning—that kind of sudden blue screen interruption can be deeply frustrating, especially when everything else seems to be working.
Let’s walk through a few focused steps to help restore smooth scanning.
Steps to Resolve C4EB863F Error on OfficeJet Pro 7740
1. Power Reset the Printer
This clears temporary memory and resets internal sensors.
- Turn off the printer using the power button
- Unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet
- Wait 60 seconds
- Plug the power cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors)
- Turn the printer back on and try scanning again
2. Check for Paper or Debris in the ADF
If you're using the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):
- Open the ADF cover and gently inspect for any paper fragments or dust
- Clean the rollers with a lint-free cloth
- Try scanning using the flatbed scanner to see if the error still occurs
3. Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can trigger scanning errors.
- Visit: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Driver Page
- Download and install the latest firmware update
- Restart the printer after installation
4. Use HP App to Scan
Switching to the HP App may bypass software conflicts.
- Download or open the HP App on your Windows 10 PC
HP App Setup Guide - Add your OfficeJet Pro 7740
- Select Scan > Document to Computer
- Try scanning from the flatbed first, then test the ADF
5. Reinstall the Full Software Package
If the basic driver was installed, reinstalling the full suite may help.
- Go to: HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Drivers
- Download the Full Software Solution
- Uninstall the current printer software from Control Panel > Programs
- Restart your PC and install the full package
Let me know if you'd like help checking your firmware version or confirming the scan method. Once these steps are complete, your printer should scan reliably without triggering the C4EB863F error.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Hawks-Eye,
Thank you for your detailed assistance. Last week-end, I tried all possibilities and it seems that the problem fixed by himself, so I do not know which procedure was the right one.
I retried today, all seems OK now. I appreciate some additional help you gave to me, in case problem occurs again, I will try all of them.
As it is said in computer world: If a products is fixed, don't touch it, unless necessary.
Thank you again for your assistance,Best Regards,Albert
