Smart Tank 5100 - randomly locks up when printing. Spits out a blank page then the power button just flashes.  Print settings shows in use.  You need to unplug - wait 10 seconds then plug back in.  Ready to take this piece of junk back to Costco.  Issue happens on MacOS, Windows, iOS printing.  Printer is great - when it works which is about 7% of the time currently.

@jasper502, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're having a frustrating experience with your HP Smart Tank 5100 printer. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the lock-up issue that occurs while printing:

Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer is running the latest firmware. Improved firmware can sometimes fix existing bugs that cause performance issues. You can check for firmware updates on HP's official support page or through the printer's Embedded Web Server.

Driver Update: Make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for both MacOS and Windows. Updated drivers are often optimized to fix various connectivity and functionality issues. You can find the latest drivers on the HP support website.

Check Print Queue: Occasionally, a long print queue can cause printers to freeze or behave unusually. Clear any pending jobs from the print queue and try printing again.

Reset the Printer: Perform a full reset of the printer by turning it off and unplugging it, as you've been doing. After plugging it back in, wait for the printer to reinitialize completely before trying another print job.

Connection Check: Verify that the network connection (wired or wireless) is stable. Unstable network conditions might interfere with printing tasks, especially if the printer gets delayed responses.

HP App: If you are using the HP app across different devices, ensure that it’s updated to the latest version. The app can help manage or troubleshoot printer settings directly from your devices.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
