After being powered on for an hour or so with no activity, the printer is a total failure. It will not respond to print or scan requests. Even the printer will fail to power cycle without unplugging. If I do unplug and repower it will work for a few minutes. Is this normal?

@Steve3001, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Smart Tank 700

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It seems like your Smart Tank 700 is experiencing communication and power issues, which are not typical for HP printers. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. You can usually check for updates through the HP website or the HP Smart app.

Connection Stability: Verify that your printer is securely connected to your network. If you're using a wireless connection, ensure the signal strength is strong. Try repositioning your router to reduce interference or connecting the printer via a wired connection.

Power Supply Check: Given that the printer fails to power cycle without being unplugged, check the power connections. Ensure the power cable is properly plugged into the printer and the outlet. Try using a different outlet to see if the problem persists.

Network Issues: There could be a network issue impacting the communication. Restart your router and see if the printer is able to maintain a stable connection.

Reset the Printer: Unplug the printer from the power source for a few minutes and then plug it back in. This can sometimes resolve issues arising from software glitches.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
