HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello everyone,

my printer suddenly decided it doesn´t recognize the printheads anymore, both symbols are flashing.

I have already tried all recommended steps and nothing worked so far, tried updating the firmware but can´t.

When I go to additional settings and "printer update" "search for update" it displays the message "system error" "Network connection issu, check the connection and try again". The printer is connected to the same network as always and is recognized. Help is appreciated.

Hi @PrinterUser0815

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for laying out the issue so clearly. It’s genuinely frustrating when your HP Smart Tank 7005 suddenly stops recognizing the printheads—especially when both icons are flashing and the firmware update fails with a network error.

Let’s walk through a structured recovery process that targets both the printhead recognition and firmware update challenges.

Step-by-Step Recovery

1. Reseat the Printheads

Even if you've done this before, a precise reseating can make all the difference:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the front cover and gently lift the printhead latch.
  • Remove both printheads and inspect for:
    • Ink buildup or debris on the copper contacts
    • Bent pins or misalignment
  • Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Let them dry completely, then reseat both printheads firmly until you hear a click.
  • Close the latch, cover, and power the printer back on.

2. Run Printhead Cleaning and Alignment

If the printer boots normally:

  • Use the control panel or HP Smart app to run:
    • Printhead Cleaning
    • Alignment
  • This helps recalibrate ink flow and sensor detection.

3. Update Firmware via USB

Since the network update fails, use a direct USB connection:

This bypasses network dependencies and often resolves persistent error states.

4. Factory Reset the Printer

If the issue persists:

  • Press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons together for 10 seconds
  • This resets the printer to factory defaults and may clear firmware-level faults

Let me know how the printer responds—I’ll guide you further if needed. You're not alone in this, and we’ll get it sorted.
