I bought a new Smart Tank 7305. Initial setup worked fine except the printhead alignment. The printer gets stuck while printing the alignment page. Display shows the endlessly running circle. Multiple hard resets didn't help.

What else can I do?

Hi @AndreM57,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see your brand-new HP Smart Tank 7305 stuck on the alignment screen, especially after everything else went smoothly. That endlessly spinning circle can feel like it's mocking your patience. Let’s get you past that moment and back to printing with confidence.

Here’s What You Can Try Next

1. Use the HP Smart App to Manually Align the Printheads

Sometimes the printer’s onboard alignment gets stuck, but the HP app can bypass that.

2. Reinsert the Printheads

Improper seating or leftover tape can cause alignment hang-ups.

  • Open the ink access door and wait for the carriage to stop.
  • Press the blue latch to open the printhead cover.
  • Remove both printheads carefully hold them upright by the sides.
  • Check for any protective tape still on the contacts and remove it.
  • Reinsert each printhead until it clicks into place.
  • Close the cover and door, then try alignment again.

3. Check for Paper or Carriage Obstructions

Even a tiny bit of debris can halt the alignment process.

  • Remove all paper and inspect the tray and carriage area.
  • Make sure the paper is plain white, not glossy or colored.
  • Reload paper and retry alignment.

4. Perform a Full Power Reset

You’ve tried hard resets, but here’s the HP-recommended full reset:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug it from the wall (not just the surge protector).
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back directly into a wall outlet.
  • Turn it on and retry alignment.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
