Why does my printer not go into standby mode!?? More often than not the screen of my brand new printer stays on for hours! I’ve done a reboot, reset, unplugged it, the firmware and the hardware is all up to date!
Also, the screen of the printer often freezes causing for me not to be able to print anything or change any settings. All of these issues have been happening in the last two weeks and I don’t know what else to do?! There’s no paper jam, the ink is properly secured and brand new.
Can anyone relate to this particular issue(s)?? I would greatly appreciate any help and/or suggestions. At this point, I no longer know what else to do.
I use my printer via my iPad or iPhone. I don’t own anything with windows. Therefore, how can I do a diagnostic test? I haven’t been able to find a way for iPad or iPhone. I have iPadOS 16.7.10 it’s an iPad 5th generation. Model number: MPGW2CL/A
Thank you, in advance!

Hi @Mariamtl,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing with your HP Envy 6155e All-in-One Printer, including the printer not entering standby mode and the screen freezing. Let's work through some troubleshooting steps to address these problems.
1. Adjust Sleep Mode Settings
To ensure your printer enters sleep mode appropriately
- Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
- Find your printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page or checking the printer's network settings.
- Enter the IP address into a web browser on your iPad or iPhone to access the EWS.
- Navigate to the Settings tab
- In the Power Management section, click on Energy Save Mode
- Select your desired sleep mode settings and click Apply.
This approach has been effective for other users experiencing similar issues.
2. Update Printer Firmware
Outdated firmware can lead to operational issues. To update:
- Using the HP Smart App:
- Open the app on your iPad or iPhone.
- Select your printer.
- Look for firmware updates in the printer settings and follow the prompts to update.
Ensuring your printer's firmware is up to date can resolve known issues and improve performance.
3. Perform a Power Reset
A power reset can clear internal errors:
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds
- Plug it back in and turn it on
This simple step can often resolve freezing issues.
4. Restore Factory Defaults
If issues persist, resetting the printer to its factory settings may help:
- Using the Printer Control Panel:
- Navigate to Settings.
- Select Printer Maintenance.
- Choose Restore Defaults and confirm.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
