Hi @rdwelton2,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how annoying it feels to see a stubborn update sitting there like an uninvited guest, especially when you don’t even own an HP printer! Let’s clear that out so your system feels clean and smooth again.

This issue usually happens because Windows Update is trying to install an optional HP printer driver that got queued by mistake. Here’s the accurate HP + Windows steps to fix it:

Step 1: Hide or Block the Update

  1. Download Microsoft’s official tool:
👉 Show or Hide Updates Troubleshooter
  2. Run the tool → Select Hide Updates → Choose HP - Printer - 61.2509.0.100.
  3. This will prevent Windows from trying to install it again.

Step 2: Remove Any Ghost HP Printer Drivers

  1. Press Win + R, type: printui /s /t2
  2. In the Print Server Properties window, remove any HP drivers listed.
  3. Restart your PC.

Step 3: Clear Windows Update Cache

  1. Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run: net stop wuauserv
                                                                                  net stop bits
  2. Navigate to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and delete all files.
  3. Then restart services: net start wuauserv
                                           net start bits

Step 4: Optional – Use PowerShell to Remove the Update

If it persists:

  • Open PowerShell (Admin) and run: Get-WindowsUpdate

            Remove-WindowsUpdate -KBArticleID <KB number if shown>

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Vikram;

Thanks, after reboot, it was gone. I will certainly put this in my bag of tricks.
