I miss actual customer service. Just thought I'd get that out there.
Anyhow, We got a Supply System Problem notice, indicating that we needed to replace our black cartridge. We replaced it; now it seems to be telling us we need a new blue cartridge. We can still hear the ink sloshing around in all our cartridges and would really rather not cycle through every one of them and still have the same problem. So we found an Accepted Solution to this message with a list of things to try. The cartridges are inserted properly and securely. The contacts are clean. We did a reset. We downloaded a firmware update (though it seems likely to be irrelevant and our firewall doesn't like it). But when we tried to install that update, the pop-up message insists that the printer is "busy" (nothing in the queue; we checked) and gives us no options but to "refresh" and start over or to cancel.
Meanwhile we're driving around with outdated insurance cards because we can't get the printer to work. So any ideas of a next step to take will be gratefully accepted.

Hi @FreyaGriff
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
Kudos to you for diligently working through various troubleshooting steps!
Try these steps:
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. It can diagnose and fix common printing issues automatically.
1. Check Ink Levels
- If your printer allows it, check the ink levels through the printer settings or the HP Smart app. Sometimes the printer may misreport the ink levels.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
3. Factory Reset (Last Resort)
- If all else fails, consider a factory reset:
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults. Note that this will reset all settings.
- Restore Factory Settings:
- From the printer control panel, tap the Setup or Settings icon (which may look like a gear).
- Go to Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Confirm the reset. This will reset all printer settings, including network settings and admin credentials.
- Reconnect the Printer:
- Once the reset is complete, you’ll need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Use the HP Smart app on your computer or smartphone to go through the setup process, where you can assign a new username and password if needed.
- Re-Enable Web Services (Optional):
- If you had HP ePrint or any web services enabled, go to Setup > HP Web Services and turn them on again.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
-Regards
