I install all ink cartridges but I'm getting an error message that there is a supply issue error with the black ink.

@Blueman3872, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The “Supply Issue” error with the black ink cartridge on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 usually indicates a problem with cartridge recognition or communication. Let’s go through some steps to resolve this:

Check Cartridge Authenticity

Make sure you're using genuine HP ink cartridges. Non-HP or refilled cartridges can sometimes trigger supply errors.

Remove and Reinstall the Black Cartridge

  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Open the ink cartridge access door.
  3. Remove the black cartridge and inspect it:
    • Check for protective tape (remove if present).
    • Ensure no ink or debris is blocking the contacts.
  4. Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.

Clean Cartridge and Printer Contacts

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  3. Let everything dry for 5 minutes, then reinstall the cartridge and power on the printer.

Reset the Printer

  1. With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back.
  2. Wait 60 seconds.
  3. Plug it back in and turn the printer on.

Try a Different Cartridge (if available)

If you have another black HP 952/952XL cartridge, try installing it to see if the issue persists. This helps isolate whether the problem is with the cartridge or the printer. Which cartridges work with my HP printer? | HP® Support

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
